She married George Bowerman, (a convict who had arrived aboard the "Indian" in 1810) on 20 Jun 1814 in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia[2][3]and their two sons were Solomon Bowerman and George Bowerman. On Friday the 15th of September, near the 18-mile stone on the Windsor Road, near to Parramatta, it was alleged that George Bowerman and his brothers, Solomon and James, had committed Highway Robbery, with several others (See Trial Transcript below), were committed for trial, found guilty and ultimately sentenced to be executed by hanging[4]. Mary was only 23 years old on 22 December 1820, when she became a widow with two small sons, the day was George executed, pleading his innocence to the very end. [5]. It was reported in the Sydney Gazette, dated 25 August 1821, that a man by the name of William Geary, who was about to be executed himself, had exonerated George Bowerman of the crime committed in 1820, and claimed that it was he, Geary, who had perpetrated the offence[6]. As the result of George's wrongful execution, a "servant of the crown" (Aka "Convict"), William Thomas, was appointed to help Mary run her property, so, some time after 25 August 1821, she formed a relationship with William and together they went on to have eight children. William was a convict who had arrived aboard the "Batavia" in 1818[7] William Thomas was the father of Mary Ann's following eight children. The children of Mary Ann and William Thomas were registered as Bowerman. Their children were Richard Bowerman, Mary Ann Bowerman, Robert Bowerman, James A. Bowerman, Martha Bowerman, Sarah Bowerman, Elizabeth Bowerman and Susannah Bowerman. In the November 1828, in the 1828 Census, Mary was living at Field of Mars, New South Wales, Australia with 3 children, George (10) (Husband George's son) and Richard Bowerman (4) and Mary Ann Thomas (3).[8]. [9]. Her son, Solomon was registered as being at his Uncle Richard's home as a servant, and was 12 years old.[10] Mary Ann died, in tragic and horrendous circumstances, on 2 August 1877 in Pennant Hills, New South Wales, Australia[11], when it appears that her clothes caught alight, and in attempting to get help or escape the flames, she fell, was injured and, possibly, died from smoke inhalation and asphyxiation[12].
